Update: Ubislate 7+ and Ubislate 7C has been launched on 26 April, 2012
This is a bitter news to all who are waiting for the low cost android tablet Ubislate 7+, there has been a bitter situation between the Indian Government and the manufacturer of the tablet “Datawind”. This situation has further delayed the launch to April 2012.
HRD Minister Kapil Sibal was quoted as saying by a daily,
“In order to cater to the huge demand, we need several manufacturers to manufacture Aakash. We are enhancing the specifications on the basis of feedback we have received from the first version of Aakash. So we want to make sure that the upgraded product caters to the need of the customers… We have involved ITI in order to upgrade it… We will be able to bring in Aakash-II by April,”
The original agreement between the Indian Government and Datawind allowed Datawind to sell the product online only after supplying the Government orders of 1 lakh tablets. But Datawind violated this term and put the tablets for sale before it could supply the ordered number of tablets to the Government (only 30,000 tablets supplied to the Government”)
Moreover,Aakash tablet has been criticised for its poor battery life, poor processor that is unable to do multi-tasking and below par display quality, so the Government is taking steps to rectify them in the upcoming product.
We can hope that this delay may improve the product specification
