Goodbye Orkut, Google to shutdown Orkut on september 30
Orkut was the first place where I added friends, posted photos and scraps
Google has just announced to shutdown the Orkut social network on September 30. Orkut was the first attempt by Google to build a social network, and it has been around for more than a decade. Google will preserve all of the site’s public communities in an archive. Starting today it will be impossible to create a new Orkut account, and existing Orkut users can access the service as normal till September.
If you are a Orkut user, you can export your profile data, community posts and photos using Google Takeout.
After September 30, you won’t be able to add new topics, comments, or polls but anyone on the web will be able to view old discussions.
It’s been a great 10 years, and we apologize to those still actively using the service, We hope people will find other online communities to spark more conversations and build even more connections for the next decade and beyond. – Paulo Golgher, an engineering director at Google
